COVID-19: Hundreds of migrant Workers Gather Near Bandra Railway Station in Mumbai

Mumbai’s Bandra West railway station was replete with migrant laborers who were hoping to get back home as they expected the lockdown to end on Tuesday. The Video from the Bandra station shows a massive crowd gathered.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today extended till May 3 the current lockdown to control the spread of coronavirus in India and said the restrictions could be reviewed for the least affected parts of the country on April 20. India was in much better shape than many major countries in the fight against coronavirus, said the Prime Minister.

However, Mumbai is a hotspot but still, people were able to gather at one place. Yes, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the extension of the lockdown, a Hundreds of migrant workers gather near Bandra railway station in Mumbai demanding transport arrangements to go back to their native places.

“Migrant workers who gathered near Bandra station in Mumbai may have thought PM Modi had ordered the opening of state borders,” Anil Deshmukh was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

They were later dispersed by the police who resorted to lathi-charge. The site was later sanitized by the authorities after the crowd dispersed.
