Netflix Show’s Indian Matchmaking: Cringe or binge

In the world of “, my name is bond, James bond” if you are “I’m Sima Taparia from Mumbai” then Netflix Show’s Indian Matchmaking is your favorite documentary. Some are all calling it, cringe and others are calling it a binge. Even Twitter Divides into “Mega Cringe” or “Accurate AF”. The show is undoubtedly problematic but so do our society. The series has inspired memes, jokes, debates about what it’s really about, and more than a few people wondering why they can’t stop watching it. Honestly, I watched it to understand jokes and memes.
Series director Smriti Mundhra pitched the idea of the show to a TV producer in 2009/2010, but the show was rejected for “essentially not being white enough.”[21] She pitched the show to Netflix by showing Taparia, who “were super excited about it.”[22] In June, Netflix ordered episodes of Indian Matchmaking. Indian Matchmaking, a Netflix docu-series that appear to fan all the stereotypes about Indians and the system of arranged marriages. The show focuses on Sima Taparia (from Mumbai) , a matchmaker who works with upper-class families in both India and the United States to connect couples that fit into the sort of criteria that are par for the course in Indian arranged marriages: income, skin colour, education levels and much more. The show is relatable because that’s what Indian arranged marriages are. Social media has also been flooded with commentary on the show. Honestly, the society is replete with the Seema anties, some are not even aunty.
