Ponniyin Selvan Part Two (PS 2) is a highly anticipated tamil period drama movie based on Famous Tamil novel Ponniyin Selvan written by Kalki Krishnamuthy. This epic historical drama is directed by Mani Ratnam and music given by A R Rehman. This movie features a huge star cast including Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Prakash Raj and Aishwarya Lakshmi.

This movie is set in the 10th century during the reign of the Chola Dynasty and follows the story of famous Chola King Raja Raja Chola I (Arulmozhi Varman – Jayam Ravi). The film is an epic tale of political conspiracies, betrayal, war, love (Adithya karikalan – Vikram and Nandini – Aishwarya Rai) and royal family drama.

Initial movie review of PS 2 are highly positive from both audiences and critics alike. The background music by A R Rehman is also highly appreciated by the public. Dialogues are especially written very well while conspiracies and shocking plot twists make it more engaging.

The casting in “Ponniyin Selvan” is almost impeccable. Karthi’s portrayal of Vandhiyathevan is remarkable, and he and Jayaram, who plays Alwarkadiyan, inject humour into an otherwise serious story. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan embodies the essence of Nandhini with her captivating appearance, while Vikram, Jayam Ravi, and Trisha excel in their roles as royalty. The movie’s visuals are magnificent, yet more restrained than those of the “Baahubali” films. Cinematographer Ravi Varman primarily uses real locations to create breathtaking spectacles, such as expansive fort walls, spacious halls with high ceilings and multiple pillars, a lone boat floating in the vast ocean, and countless bodies lined up on the beach. Although AR Rahman’s songs are often used to advance the plot, his score elevates the second half’s excitement.

With this magnificent adaptation, Mani Ratnam finally realises the second part of the much awaited movie “Ponniyin Selvan ”. PS 2 is a perfect blend of the mystery, thrills, drama, history, and page-turning nature of the original works.
